Folks, I'm sending this on my own initiative, copying the rest of the IAHC for the benefit of future discussion. I am sending this note to individuals and groups that I believe are generally supportive of the IAHC plan for evolving governance and operation of the gTLD DNS space. Please feel free to forward it selectively. Having it go out too generally simply provides more grist for the mill of critics. The IAHC report was issued more than one month ago. Since then, various people have had various discussions -- all useful to the cause -- but there is no organization to the efforts at responding to criticisms, developing support, working with the press, or anything else one might call promoting the report. Those of us on the IAHC, itself, continue to put in time, but the project has already called for more of our time than any of us expected and more than most of us could afford. Still, we are glad to have done the work and we believe the result to be quite excellent. But after the report comes the selling. We need organized effort with the press. We need organized effort with constituencies (industry, government, trade associations...). We need reporting on these efforts, to gauge how things are going. This is a much larger requirement than the few members of the IAHC committee can marshall, even without our having already put in so much time. Too, support for such a plan must come from the larger community, so why shouldn't the effort to sell it? So, this note is a probe to see whether such an organized effort can be developed. Please let me/us know your thoughts, suggestions, and interest. Thanks. d/ ---------------------------- Dave Crocker, Director +1 408 246 8253 Internet Mail Consortium (f) +1 408 249 6205 127 Segre Place dcrocker@imc.org Santa Cruz, CA 95060 USA http://www.imc.org Also: IAHC member, expressing personal opinions http://www.iahc.org
