The IESG has approved the following document: - 'Internet Group Management Protocol, Version 3' (draft-ietf-pim-3376bis-12.txt) as Internet Standard This document is the product of the Protocols for IP Multicast Working Group. The IESG contact persons are Gunter Van de Velde, Jim Guichard and John Scudder. A URL of this Internet-Draft is: https://datatracker.ietf.org/doc/draft-ietf-pim-3376bis/ Technical Summary This document specifies a revised Version 3 of the Internet Group Management Protocol, IGMPv3. IGMP is the protocol used by IPv4 systems to report their IP multicast group memberships to neighboring multicast routers. Version 3 of IGMP adds support for source filtering, that is, the ability for a system to report interest in receiving packets only from specific source addresses, or from all but specific source addresses, sent to a particular multicast address. That information may be used by multicast routing protocols to avoid delivering multicast packets from specific sources to networks where there are no interested receivers. This document obsoletes RFC 3376. Working Group Summary Was there anything in the WG process that is worth noting? For example, was there controversy about particular points or were there decisions where the consensus was particularly rough? GV> This document has had extensive reviews and discussions by the PIM WG, last-call and various directorates. GV> The original IGMPv3 dates back to 2002 and this document updated RFC3376 based upon implementation experience and intends to move to Internet Standard Document Quality Are there existing implementations of the protocol? Have a significant number of vendors indicated their plan to implement the specification? Are there any reviewers that merit special mention as having done a thorough review, e.g., one that resulted in important changes or a conclusion that the document had no substantive issues? If there was a MIB Doctor, Media Type, or other Expert Review, what was its course (briefly)? In the case of a Media Type Review, on what date was the request posted? GV> Document quality good. When using the IETF diff tool all modifications and clarifications from rfc3376 can be easily found. The Appendix has information about certain specificities and changes found within this document Personnel The Document Shepherd for this document is Stig Venaas. The Responsible Area Director is Gunter Van de Velde. IANA Note All IGMP types described in this document are managed via [I-D.ietf-pim-3228bis].
