Greetings. This message kicks off the PKNG RG. Thank you for joining the discussion. I have listed an initial set of "ground rules" on the RG wiki at <http://trac.tools.ietf.org/group/irtf/trac/wiki/pkng>. Please read it before posting, and maybe re-read it periodically. I'll let the list know if I update the page. Also, please re-read the RG's charter at <http://www.irtf.org/charter?gtype=rg&group=pkng>. Our first significant work item is to come up with a list of desired features for the next generation public key systems. I believe the best way for us to do that is as follows: - Anyone in the RG with a particular feature they want to see on the list starts a new thread on the mailing list with proposed wording for the feature, including specific semantics. - People discuss the thread, even if just to say "sounds fine". The discussion might change the proposed wording. - Once the thread dies down, the resulting wording is added to an ongoing list on the RG's wiki. - At least once every six months, we instantiate the contents of the wiki into an Internet Draft. This will help get attention from people outside the RG, and possibly generate more involvement. We can discuss this process at the same time as people start posting desired features. If you want to comment on the process, feel free to reply to this thread. If you want to start suggesting features, please remember to start a new thread. --Paul Hoffman, Director --VPN Consortium
