Subject: Re: ISOC Trustees

Now that we have the list of ISoc trustees, which I'm sure has been published
before, it might help if someone explained their REAL function and why they're
qualified for it. To be blunt, I have the impression that they are the
official rubber stamp to be applied to what we were already doing, so we'll
have improved legitimacy as an International Standards Body. As I recall,
they are to be responsible for appointing the IAB, but I expect the IAB will
continue to appoint itself and have the nice trustees stamp that.

I'm not saying this is bad. I'm just trying to get the right label on the
spade. What I'm afraid of is that I'm right but you aren't allowed to say
that in so many words because it's not politically correct, or litigationally
wise, so instead we get careful evasions, wordsmithed officialities, and
consequent conspiracy theories that the trustees are really ISO moles with the
ultimate goal of throwing the Internet into confusion by turning our attention
from technology to process and politics, having thoroughly baffled kindly,
trusting Vint and the rest of the Internet Aged Boys.
