There's no need to say you must drop the packet if it's bigger. I like @kazuho's suggestion, and I especially agree with the point about already risking the network dropping the packet if it's more than 1200 bytes.

There's no need to say you must drop the packet if it's bigger. If you ended up being able to receive the packet successfully even though it was more than you advertised, go ahead and process it.
