Purpose: For information

Body: As Wi-Fi networks mature, it has become increasingly important to identify the location of access points. Location information is required for many functions, including network management, troubleshooting, security, enabling location services such as navigation and meeting regulatory obligations.

WBA Members have concluded recently a project named Signaling Location Information in RADIUS (SLIR) that aimed at:
 •identifying the key use cases where was important to communicate the location of end-users or access network providers
 access points to the identity providers;
 • identifying current standards and technological components that could be used to retrieve such info;
 • raising awareness in the industry to this need and provide a starting baseline for both manufacturers and identity

Although we recently met with Alan DeKok (Network RADIUS) and subsequently shared our preliminary work product, upon work completion, the team is pleased to liaise the publication in first-hand with the members of IETF RADEXTRA.

Specific Request:
 • the team would like to invite IETF RADEXTRA to consult and review the document;
 • any feedback is naturally well received;
 • WBA members would be available to present an overview at an upcoming IETF meeting.

Any feedback received could be included in subsequent publications and revisions of the document.

The final approved version of the document can be found attached to this liaison letter.

Looking forward to hearing back from you and to our continued cooperation.

Yours sincerely,
The WBA SLIR Project Leaders
