Sidemeeting notes 25-07-205

Motivation
 - RIR may use REPP (ARIN, Jasdip (JD))
   - Multiple RIR coulde use a common model (ip, autnum mappings)
   - RIRs are already using distinct RESTful APIs

- Problems to solve
  -Jim Gould (JG)
         - How much to re-use from EPP can also be a problem, greenfield vs iterative vs ..
         - Transition from EPP to REPP

  -JD
    - DELEG, requirements are hard and soft, similar problem, trying to change existing solution
howto avoid stepping on toes existing stuff?

- Rquirements
  JG
    - intent to re-use all existing EPP extensions, need mapping all extensions
    - do analysis what extensions can be supported and which not
    - json-schema, should be used and validation is very important
    - no protocol extension was succesful, don't we need to support it?
    - object extension are used by Verisign
    - check/info for some extension requires a message
    - what is backwards compat requirement, do we want to do this?

   William Caroll (Verisign)
     - json, esthablish compatibillity between xml and json in both directions
     - EPP and REPP can co-exist at the same time

   JD
     - some semantics may exist in json and not in xml and some actors may want to ignore xml all together.

   Scott Hollenbeck (Verisign)
     - it is allowed to ignore elements from base schema 5730
     - new schema part could be added in form of extension
     - ICANN requires gTLD to use RFC 5730 and may require REPP and some legacy operators
       may not like this.
     - A new solution such as REPP cannot obsolete core EPP because 5730 and its potential successor are required by ICANN for gTLD agreement.

   Rick Wilhelm (PIR)
     - who is going to use this? gtld could use this as add-on adapter on top of current existing code. some users such are RIR might like Greenfield as not to be limited by DNR community rules.
     - Is positive because from businesspoint, tls is a pain for registrars and making implemenation easier will attract new registrars and not using reseller potentially.
