Speaking as someone who was on the third call where this point came up, and who would qualify, my immediate reaction was that I didn't really want that sticky label on me anyway ;-). However, there is an underlying point: we do want people with a wider view than just the current incumbents in I* and RFC* roles. Past I* chairs are in that category, so they are fair examples.
