Subject: BoF announce in April meeting (colip)

Hi all,

This is call for participation in a BoF slot in April IETF meeting.
The BOF discussing a reservation oriented (i.e. connection oriented)
and connectionless IP transport over ATM, whose purposes are
mentioned below, is scheduled as below.

We have input one Internet-Draft in this week, and it will
input this mailing-list.

When you are not interested in this topics, please ignore this
mail.

0. Name of mailing-list
-----------------------
     colip-atm@necom830.cc.titech.ac.jp

1. Purpose and Goal
-------------------
The goal of this mailing-list is to discuss the possibility to extract
the capabilities of ATM, which are the low-latency high-bandwidth provision
and the assurance of QoS for each communication flow, for IP communication,
without changing the current IP architecture. The study will include the
implementation of ATM routers that does not change the IP architecture
while extracting the full capability of ATM.
IP over ATM WG and ROLC WG is working on cell-wise communication
among LISs (Logical IP Subnet). However, their proposal imply
several changes to the IP architecture both for end-node and for
router.
To fully extract the low-latent high-throughput and the QoS service
oriented properties of ATM, the model takes care of not only the
connectionless IP communication but also reservation based
QoS-assured IP communication related to RSVP (ST-II) or to IPv6
flow mechanisms.
Though the architecture to procvide such a low-latent high-throuput
IP packet flow using different approach from NHRP (discussed in ROLC-WG),
the proposed architecture can apply to LIS routers over ATM cloud and
to end-station belonging to LIS over ATM cloud, as well as apply to
the network based on catenet model.
