Mouli,

I guess the best answer to your question is available in the introduction sections of draft-ietf-roll-p2p-rpl-04 and draft-ietf-roll-p2p-measurement-02.

Thanks
Mukul

Hello folks,

A newbie question.
It is assumed that network is lossy and low power and do we still need
active probing mechanism analogous to standard IP networks ?

Thanks
Mouli

Hi all

This update includes:

1) Reorganization of the contents (splitting sections into subsections)
to help the implementor.
2) New sections on Security and IANA considerations.
3) Two new flags in the MO: one to allow the origin to request the
target to generate a Measurement Request so that the origin can
determine the round-trip cost of reaching the target; the other that
allows an intermediate route to generate the Measurement Reply on
target's behalf.

Thanks
Mukul

A New Internet-Draft is available from the on-line Internet-Drafts
directories. This draft is a work item of the Routing Over Low power and
Lossy networks Working Group of the IETF.

Title : A Mechanism to Measure the Quality of a
Point-to-point Route in a Low Power and Lossy Network
	Author(s) : Mukul Goyal
                          Emmanuel Baccelli
                          Anders Brandt
                          Jerald Martocci
	Filename : draft-ietf-roll-p2p-measurement-02.txt
	Pages : 18
	Date : 2011-10-29

This document specifies a mechanism that enables an RPL router to
measure the quality of an existing route towards another RPL router
in a low power and lossy network, thereby allowing the router to
decide if it wants to initiate the discovery of a better route.
