Well, when SIP was developed you could have argued that there are millions of users that can only be reached by using ISDN - so why disregard this user base and invent something that did not interop properly?

Sometimes we need to move forward. After many years of insecure calls having issues with traversing NATs everywhere, I think enough is enough and it's time to provide a better solution.
