I am also in your situation sharing your concern. The silence of great 
majoroity is interpreted by WG cochair as siding his opinion, which is 
not necessarily the case. Jim himself agreed in the previous email, and 
I copied below:

'That the process around the decision to select the WG draft was
murky. Others have made this
comment as well, and I agreed, several times in fact, that this was the
case.'

that the process was murky, then why the decision is being made in haste. We should work to resolve Behcet's concern. It is also quite mind boggling for me that a point-based evaluation criterion was designed by the one who is declairing that it 'miserably failed'. This also shows that Bechcet has a right to get a satisfactory answer.
