3.1.4 Cryptographic Message Syntax (CMS)

The CMS [RFC3852] specification defines how to digitally sign,
digest, authenticate, and encrypt message content. It is commonly
used for email with S/MIME [RFC3851] and other message-based (as
compared to session-based) protocols.
