I haven't read the book by Mr. Stallings, so I can't comment on the 
accuracy of the content.

But I think you are being unfair with the following comments:

What does this mean?  It could be taken to mean that only certain people 
have earned the right to write books on snmp.  I hope this wasn't what 
you meant, as any assertion that the work the work of the ietf is 
anything but public domain castes aspersions on the entire process.  

I like to think I misunderstood this comment entirely.
