I was thinking about end-to-end things for the non-0 keys in an open packet. a0p0 packets may contain non-0 keys, but I'm not thinking of those as declarations. We'll find out more as we prototype a real transport on top of SPUD.

I suggest we leave it intentionally vague for the moment.

e.g. websockets (RFC 6455, section 1.3). The client provides a nonce. The server does some calculation that proves with higher confidence than the magic number provided that it is speaking SPUD, sending the result in the ack packet.

>Section 10: "which may always have the following keys" - I assume that this key is optional but it is often expected to be used. Or shall it always be used when responding to a specific path declarations.

Probably only when responding to a specific path declaration. I'm going to change the name to "midpoint token" to make it clear that this is not a cookie in the HTTP sense.
