Many thanks for all those who helped
provide pointers and information for
this overview.  There is so much occurring
in so many venues, it is difficult to capture
it all, so apologies in advance for anything
missed.

Additional information is welcome, and
there is certain to be ongoing collaborative
activity.

ps. for the oldsters in the crowd, some
of this is reminiscent of when ISDN was
brought to the FCC for regulation in the
early 80s by Bellcore and AT&T.   Probably
just as well.  There was this other technology
being cooked over at DARPA called tcp/ip.
