Hi Jari,

Thanks for your reply and suggestion.

As coauthors of VPN+ framework draft, we are glad that the concept and content in VPN+ framework are accepted by the design team, and are used to build the skeleton of the framework draft. This also shows the alignment between the two drafts.

In IETF we have clear and simple rules of evaluating the contribution and generating the authors list of a draft. Basically an author list is firstly created based on the contribution to an initial version of a draft, then as the draft grows, new authors/contributors will be added to the list. The design team could also follow such rules.

Thus IMO we could follow what you suggested by creating an initial author list at the end of the draft as we do with other drafts in IETF. New authors could be added to the list based on their contributions to text.

And we will continue to contribute to the rest part of the document.

Best regards,
Jie

First things first, we absolutely will include sufficient number of authors (and contributors, if we run out of author list space) that significantly contributed to the work. And as it looks now, there’s a significant contribution in terms of some pieces of texts and concepts from the VPN draft.

That being said, I think the framework text that we have today is maybe 15% ready so lets also leave some room for whatever comes still.

Can I suggest that we two do things?

- Add a section in the draft that lists current contributors (marked “potential authors/contributors”, for instance). This list should include the VPN+ draft authors.
- Focus on the substance and the remaining 85%; figuring out what it makes sense to say in this document, and what its role is in comparison to other documents (including but not limited the VPN+ one)

And then we’re done, we review the new section and update the final list of authors and contributors.

Makes sense?

Jari
