Peter Furniss and Hewlett-Packard are pleased to announce the second
release of the XTI minimal OSI prototype (XTI/mOSI).

The implementation uses the minimal OSI mapping of X/Open's XTI
transport interface to provide access to the OSI upper-layers -- the
Session, Presentation and ACSE protocols. The upper-layer protocol
sent corresponds to the octet sequences defined in the IETF thinosi
cookbook and is a conformant subset of the OSI protocols as defined in
the standards. The prototype conforms to the ISO/IEC Profile: Common
Upper Layer Requirements: Minimal OSI Upper Layer Facilities.

This release includes some improvments in the OSI upper-layer
capabilities - it can handle multiple presentation data values in one
P-DATA, multiple presentation contexts (mostly), AP and AE invocation
identifiers. Most of these features have been handled by interim
mechanisms that are not part of the XTI/mOSI specification. It also
has slightly cleaned-up source code.

The software and its documentation are available by anonymous ftp
from:

   host pluto.ulcc.ac.uk

   directory	ulcc/thinosi/xtimosi

   files	README short explanation

		xtimosi1.tar.Z compressed tar of source
					and documentation as text

This prototype was developed by Peter Furniss with the support and
assistance of Hewlett-Packard. It is jointly owned by Peter Furniss
and HP. The prototype provides an easy-to-use implementation of a
small but widely applicable subset of the OSI upper-layers.

The software is freely available to be used as you wish. See COPYRIGHT
file in the documentation for details.

We would like to know what you think of it, and which missing features
are the most important.
