Perhaps a way forward here is for someone to document a target platform.  Or multiple target platforms, and decide which are in-scope and out of scope for us to look at.

Arguing by anecdote -- this lightbulb has this 10-cent part, that car has this ARM supercore with gigs of memory -- just gets us going around and around in circles.
