Hi all,

In order to have a more streamlined process for implementation and prioritization decisions around the IETF tools suite, we are going to be re-structuring the IETF tools team somewhat. For some time now we’ve had feature requests, bug fixes, and bigger picture issues coming into the team from many sources. The current structure is good for broad coordination but is not well suited to day-to-day decisionmaking. Based on discussions with Robert and Jay, we’re going to try to improve this situation.

To achieve more focus on implementation, there will be a small, core part of the team focused on implementation and a broader group that includes the rest of the current tools team members and liaisons (what we’re now going to call at-large members) who will continue to help with coordination and input from their respective roles. The broader group will continue to have regular coordination calls. The implementation group will meet more frequently and have more intensive interaction.

Robert will become the chair of the tools team. The implementation group will be: Robert, Henrik, Russ, Glen, Alexey, and Roman. Roman represents the IESG and his slot may rotate among different IESG members at the IESG’s discretion. We will setup tools-implementation@ietf.org <mailto:tools-implementation@ietf.org> as the team’s mailing list, which will have a public archive and allow non-subscribers to post to it.

The initial at-large members will be the rest of the existing tools team members and liaisons:
Ben Campbell
Bob Hinden
Éric Vyncke
Jari Arkko
John Levine
Julian Reschke
Rich Salz
Tero Kivinen
Tony Hansen
Alexa Morris
Alice Russo
Karen Moreland
Liz Flynn
Ryan Cross
Sandy Ginoza
Jay Daley

The full team (implementation + at-large) will remain subscribed to tools-development@ietf.org <mailto:tools-development@ietf.org>. Robert will be the decisionmaker about future membership changes. If you no longer wish to continue on the tools team, please let him know.

I also wanted to express my huge thanks and appreciation to Russ for all his years chairing the tools team, and to all of you for your continued support of this work.

We can discuss the re-structure under AOB on the call today. After the changes have been reflected in the datatracker and on the web site, I’ll send a note to the community.

Thanks,
Alissa
