This is a really good point, and one that I had not considered explicitly
in my rush to think about requirements of a technical nature. The interop
requirement, if you will, is that it be in the Latin script; but exactly
*how* it relates to a participant's given name in his or her native tongue
is to be intentionally left up to that person.

I.e., it is often just someone's English language nickname.
