That is one way to do that. However in this debate, if the organizer has a
different TZ definition than you, you can map it to and from UTC all you
want, you might not show up at the correct time.

Not all user agents store the data in UTC, many store the original event
and VTIMEZONE and map it as needed. If you do not use the TZ they specify,
you could show up, call, watch, whatever at technically the correct time,
but not when they are expecting you.
