Do you considerate of the case that client exist in other subnet, and
DHCP negotiation is working via relay agent ?

If the ICMP echo reply is forwarded via some gateway, how can server
recognize the hardware address ?  (In this case, the source hardware
address of the ETHER frame which contains ICMP echo reply is gateway's
hardware address. )
