In my opinion it is really bad to lock us into a single box deployment.
Wifi technology moves independently from DSL technology. There is no
reason to assume that a single, ISP provided box will do everything well.
In fact it is quite common for people to buy new wifi APs when stuff
doesn't work as well. There is a whole market of wifi mesh devices. That
market would not exist is everybody was happy with their ISP provided router.

This an area where IPv6 does worse than IPv4. We really need to avoid that.
It is very easy for people to disable IPv6, and it is unlikely that they
will turn it on again.
