Hi Martin,

In *all* the RIRs *any* organization is free to get PI or PA.

In fact, many universities, instead of going for PI opt for PA. I’ve done that job for many of them in the 5 RIR regions.

If you need more than /48, you just come back to the RIPE NCC and justify it. Not a problem!

You may not need to renumber the network, you can apply the additional bits to the same prefix, or if you get different /48, renumber only part of it (may be nothing), etc.

I’ve *always* been able to justify in every one of the 5 RIRs, whatever I needed for all my customers. Never got an issue. It is just a matter of making a proper addressing plan.

Despite that, you may have hear that, because some other people got troubles with both allocations and assignments there is on-going work in the address policy WG in RIPE to review the complete IPv6 policy. I’ve submitted proposals to the chairs together with some other folks, so just stay tuned.
