This mail is to extend support towards Kolkata as a proposed venue to host the first ever IETF in the Indian subcontinent. This mail is to help you know the venue.

IMPORTANT : 
1) Since people are concerned about the pollution in India, it may please be noted that the venue that we have proposed is now within a certified "green city" with the lowest possible pollution that you may (arguably) expect considering the IETF venues that you have been in the past. 2) One of the promising NextGen silicon industry hub is coming up just close to the proposed venue. It is called Bengal Silicon Valley Hub (http://bwpeople.businessworld.in/article/West-Bengal-India-s-Silicon-Valley-Hub/15-08-2018-157904/) which has collaboration with Amazon Internet services and Fujisoft among other companies.

3) The connects with the Govt. and other relevant stakeholders have already started to offer a best possible IETF event. We are sure to get good logistics support here in India from both state and union govt. 

4) Kolkata has strategic geographic location. An IETF in Kolkata is sure to boost up participation for engineers and academicians, working on Internet technologies but cannot make to the IETF due to budget constraints, from not only the Indian subcontinent but also from the whole of South, South-East and Middle East Asia.

5) Since a concern is raised over flight cost here is a practical exercise. (I think it is not going to be much of problem for Europe though). Let's assume that the upcoming IETF is happening in Kolkata instead of Bangkok. Let's say we are US residents and we want to attend the IETF. We are booking the tickets now and searching for flights. One search is from/to Washington DC and the other one is from/to Los Angeles. So we kind of covering both the coasts of America and two important cities on two coasts. The flight options that we got for both of these separate searches are attached. The prices are not that exorbitant it seems. Please note, while we book a flight from US to/from Kolkata right now for November IETF, we are losing the advantage of booking with enough lead time to have more cheaper options.

6) Kolkata, the cultural capital of India, is the capital city of the state of West Bengal which is the only state in India that extends from the mighty Himalayas to the unique mangroves of the Sunderbans and the Bay of Bengal while forming the largest river delta on earth.
