Lately I have noticed that saying this is not enough, I also need to
require that the slide number are big enough to be visible, and are
not light gray on white background or something else very low

It seems that default templates people use, or pick are trying to hide
the slidenumbers as someone thinks they are not needed (perhaps
because they assume PDF viewer has page numbers also and those are
enough)..

In my WG I make one big combined PDF having all presentations in one
file, and the PDF page numbers have not meaning anymore as the slide 7
will be PDF page number 32 in the actual PDF that gets presented. So
when someone says go to page 7, I as a chair need to see the slide
number to be able to find slide 7.
