I would *expect* (add image of a crowd of IETFers with pitchforks here) that we’ll have that feature (showing the current and previous few speaker names (*)) in whatever we use for IETF109.

Having to say your name at the start of each sentence (or two sentences)

— is a distraction for everyone, not just the note takers
— is a distraction for the speaker as well
— is a duty usually disposed of in a way that is not audible, so it doesn’t even help
— leads to lots of time wasted and additional distractions in chair interactions (“Who are you, John?”)
— serves to make the microphone cycle time longer, instead of the faster cycle times we actually need

This is one of the places where we need to embrace the advantages of going digital. Never say your name again.

Grüße, Carsten
