PS I can't seem to find the "help" template - perhaps because it's
not been written up yet?!? Is Rickard's interpretation (see below)
     acceptable to everyone? ...

       Template-Type: HELP
       Handle: HELP01
       Subject: HELP
Helptext: This is an experimental whois++ server.
                 See available commands with "commands".
More help is available for some commands with "help <command>".
For help on searching, use "help search"
(You can keep the connection from being closed with the "hold"
                 command).
This server responds to centroid commands.

Well the whole question of how to format responses to queries other
than searches is not covered and needs to be. For example what does
the output of version look like?

Here is the output from my server both to "help" and to "version"

% whois -h whois.adelaide.edu.au help
Whois++ Service at The University of Adelaide, AU.
For more information about this service send the "help" command.

% This directory only lists information about staff (except non academic
% casuals), ie students are not included.

% The University is installing a new PABX system, and so it is very likely that
% the numbers listed here are wrong (especially if they aren't of the form +61
% 8 303 xxxx). If in doubt contact the main switchboard on +61 8 303 4455.

You have connected to a server that implements the new WHOIS++ specification.

This service is provided via an underlying X.500 Directory Service and so
this server is really only a read-only DUA interface to the X.500 Directory.

A "technical" description of this service may be obtained by using the
"describe" command, this will also list a contact for this service.

Further information is available on the following topics
 general
 help
 constraints
 version
 describe
 list
 show
 command
 commands
 search

% whois -h whois.adelaide.edu.au version
Whois++ Service at The University of Adelaide, AU.
For more information about this service send the "help" command.

% casuals), ie students are not included.

% The University is installing a new PABX system, and so it is very likely that

% Whois++ Protocol version [FIRST DRAFT - 15 April 1993]
