A Revised Internet-Draft is available from the on-line Internet-Drafts
directories. This draft is a work item of the Whois and Network Information
Lookup Service Working Group of the IETF.

Title : Architecture of the WHOIS++ service
       Author(s) : P. Deutsch, R. Schoultz, P. Faltstrom, C. Weider
       Filename : draft-ietf-wnils-whois-arch-02.txt
       Pages : 44
       Date : 01/31/1995

This document describes WHOIS++, an extension to the trivial WHOIS service
described in RFC 954 to permit WHOIS-like servers to make available more
structured information to the Internet. We describe an extension to the
simple WHOIS data model and query protocol and a companion extensible,
distributed indexing service. A number of options have also been added
such as the use of multiple languages and character sets, more advanced
search expressions, structured data and a number of other useful features.
An optional authentication mechanism for protecting all or part of the
associated WHOIS++ information database from unauthorized access is also
described.

Send a message to: mailserv@ds.internic.net. In the body type:
     "FILE /internet-drafts/draft-ietf-wnils-whois-arch-02.txt".

NOTE: The mail server at ds.internic.net can return the document in
MIME-encoded form by using the "mpack" utility. To use this
feature, insert the command "ENCODING mime" before the "FILE"
command. To decode the response(s), you will need "munpack" or
a MIME-compliant mail reader. Different MIME-compliant mail readers
exhibit different behavior, especially when dealing with
"multipart" MIME messages (i.e., documents which have been split
up into multiple messages), so check your local documentation on
      how to manipulate these messages.

For questions, please mail to Internet-Drafts@cnri.reston.va.us.

Below is the data which will enable a MIME compliant mail reader
implementation to automatically retrieve the ASCII version
of the Internet-Draft.
