Subject: Re: need a new name for ADMD=IMX
X-Mailer: <PC Eudora Version 1.4>

I am not a member of this list and has not followed the earlier discussion,
but have been involved in some general addressing discussions about
interworking between Internet and X.400.

I am not at all clear about why this Internet ADMD would be needed and would
therefore like to get comments on the following proposal.

When addressing Internet I can use any ADMD/PRMD-name or combination of
names to route the message to the gateway I need for the communication.

If you want a generic name for that 'gateway function', why not just use
PRMD=IMX and use the existing ADMD-name of your system and/or the other
system that provides the gateway.

When addressing in the other direction from Internet to X.400, the simplest
way seems to be to define an Internet mail domain 'admd.country' for each
X.400 ADMD which is providing this type of gateway. Seen from Internet this
domain will represent all X.400 users associated with that ADMD.

Then the X.400 address could be used unchanged, just written in the Internet
address format, e.g.

first_name.initial.surname@org_unit.org.prmd.admd.country

This also seems to be the most user friendly way to address this problem.

Has this proposal been discussed earlier?

regards/bernt
