Claudio,

There is another advantage to using 2 separate fields, i.e. using the data
compression algorithm embedded in the DNS protocol. It is very probably the 
case that the mapping data will be correlated with the domain name. In that
case, the servers and client can use the algorithm specified in RFC 1035
(4.1.4. Message compression, page 30).
