I actually don't see the conflict in your statements. Phils agrees to
give you the value of all configuration knobs if you ask for it.

And yes, from experience with several boxes, I can confirm that
getting just the configuration values that were really touched is
indeed a nice feature once you are familiar with a device. And many
network devices support this in their native CLI - so we might be well
adviced to support this compact view as well.
