I found the discussions last autumn that led to the publication of RFC5746
illuminating in that they clarified my understanding of TLS.  Judging by the
posts to the mailing list at that time, others were illuminated too so I have
turned my notes into a brief I-D which is
aimed not so much at those on this list, for whom those discussions will be a
recent memory, but for the next generation on this list and more especially for
those on other lists, preparing appl-over (D)TLS, for whom any word starting re*
appears to mean the same thing:-(
