The MLE draft (draft-kelsey-6lo-mesh-link-establishment) has been recently submitted for consideration for adoption by the 6lo working group. This document has been around for a number of years (since September 2011) and was developed primarily for ZigBee IP and although ZigBee IP was effectively finished in March 2013, it is still waiting for publication of the draft.

The MLE draft was submitted as draft-kelsey-intarea-mesh-link-establishment as an individual submission originally intended for the Internet area (intarea) and not a specific working group. It was AD-sponsored by Ralph Droms and I was the document shepherd. IESG Evaluation raised a number of comments but the author was unable to spend time on updating the document and it ended up expiring.

As well as ZigBee IP, MLE is being used in other standards (ZigBee NAN, Thread) and therefore there is a requirement to have the draft published as an RFC so it can be properly referenced. For this reason, it has been resubmitted in its current form as draft-kelsey-6lo-mesh-link-establishment with intended status as Informational.

There are numerous implementations of MLE, it already has a port allocated and a Wireshark dissector has been written but not yet submitted to the main repository.

I would really appreciate it if we could get one or two people willing to review the draft and would also like to see it adopted as a 6lo WG document. I would be happy to answer any specific questions. Please let me know personally or e-mail the reflector if you would be willing to review the MLE draft.

Thanks in advance,

Robert
