Hi to all,

one thing that I noticed at every IETF I attended in person:
The moment (more or less), the break time is officially over and the
sessions start, the food gets collected by the staff.

I think that's unfortunate, because people don't stop eating, just
because there is a session slot.
If you don't have a session, then waiting for the break to be over can
be a smart way to avoid long queues or maybe you're just feeling
overwhelmed by the many people and want some peace and quiet.
Or you overslept, missed your hotel breakfast and want to get a quick
snack before running your session.

For some food it may be hard to leave it out, since hygiene rules force
the venue to remove the food after a certain amount of time, but for all
other food, IMHO there is no harm in just leaving it out, maybe move it
to a dedicated "leftover" area, so the staff can clean/rearrange the
other tables and the participants know where to look if they're looking
for food in between sessions.

This way, we can reduce even more food waste.

On a side note:

We have the baristas, and that's great, but only for people drinking coffee.
I have managed to get my thermos filled with hot water at a barista
station, so I could use my own tea bags, but it would be great to have
tea as additional permanent option. In Prague we had the water
dispensers with built-in hot water, here in Brisbane I have to use
either the coffee machines (which are only turned on during breaks) or
ask the baristas, who have to fill the thermos cup-by-cup.

Cheers,

Janfred
