With no hats on I want to point out these fundamentals of how the network operates feel to me to be true no matter which economy we operate in. Requiring 802.11x log retention seems to be the only new component, all other aspects of layer 2, scanning, opportunistic cross correlating data existed before this coming meeting, and it would not surprise me for any legal domain to ask for information, if an open broadcast medium like ours came into their view out of some LEA need. Have we not had both black- and white- hat activities on the network in the past? With varying degrees of commitment I've always treated the IETF network at a public wifi level of trust. If VPN is permitted I have the trust I need from my local device to the assets back home. I have received guidance to limit direct attachment to things of concern back home with privilege, ask people back home to perform operations for you so the cut out is clear: no direct venue-to-risk packetflows. I would have thought this is both easy to do, and sensible advice anywhere you are uncertain about your network privacy. I do not personally see a concern here, which would limit my ability to be online from this IETF venue, or to attend the IETF meeting. I understand people have different views on this, different concerns and obligations. I am not trying to objectify anyone else's choices. -George
