Hi all,

I have posted version -02 of the Agent Interaction Requirements draft:

https://datatracker.ietf.org/doc/html/draft-feng-agentproto-session-requirements-02

The document covers requirements for both session-based and
sessionless interactions, including transport-independent interaction
binding, authentication, capability negotiation, session
establishment, continuous authorization, and lifecycle management.

The main changes in this revision are:

- added a common transport-independence and interaction-binding requirement;
- clarified that a transport connection is not itself a session;
- clarified that a session is a bilateral association between
authenticated peers;
- clarified that delegating application work to a third party does not
change the peers or state of an existing session, nor automatically
transfer session authority;
- clarified that a different entity establishes its own session, while
resumption of an existing logical session is limited to the same
authenticated entities; and
- separated base session requirements from application-level task
handoff, responsibility transfer, audit, and retrospective
determinability, which may be valuable topics for separate work.

These changes reflect the recent mailing-list discussions while
keeping the document focused on protocol requirements rather than
specific implementation mechanisms.

Comments and suggestions are very welcome.

Best regards,
Chong

A new version of Internet-Draft
draft-feng-agentproto-session-requirements-02.txt has been successfully
submitted by Chong Feng and posted to the
IETF repository.

Name:     draft-feng-agentproto-session-requirements
Revision: 02
Title: Requirements for Agent Session Establishment, Capability
Negotiation, and Sessionless Interaction
Date:     2026-08-20
Group:    Individual Submission
Pages:    22
URL:      https://www.ietf.org/archive/id/draft-feng-agentproto-session-requirements-02.txt
Status:   https://datatracker.ietf.org/doc/draft-feng-agentproto-session-requirements/
HTMLized: https://datatracker.ietf.org/doc/html/draft-feng-agentproto-session-requirements
Diff:     https://author-tools.ietf.org/iddiff?url2=draft-feng-agentproto-session-requirements-02

Abstract:

   This document defines requirements for session-based and sessionless
   interactions between entities. For session-based interactions, it
   covers transport-independent interaction binding, endpoint
   authentication, capability negotiation, session establishment,
   authorization, and lifecycle management. It also defines security
   and state requirements for interactions, such as notifications,
   probes, and atomic requests, that do not establish a session. It is
   assumed that the entities involved already know of each other; how
   they came to know each other is outside the scope of this document.
   At least one party to an interaction is an agent as defined in
   Section 3. This document is intended as a contribution to the
   agentproto working group's use cases, gap analysis, and requirements
   deliverable.

   A session is a bilateral association. Protocols and application
   semantics for coordinating delegation or handoff of work to an entity
   that is not a peer, and management functions such as cross-entity
   accountability and audit, are outside the scope of these base session
   requirements. This document specifies only that such coordination
   does not, by itself, change the peers or state of an existing
   session.
