Thanks a lot everyone for this very interesting thread. Recently the European think tank CERRE published an interesting report by Justus Baron and Pierre Larouche called:
'The European Standardisation System at a Crossroads'. I think quite some interesting issues are being discussed there - that also all reflect the discussions in this thread, plus many of the discussion held in hrpc over the years. You can find the report here:

https://cerre.eu/publications/the-european-standardisation-system-at-a-crossroads/

But you can also watch the presentation here:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0dFOShZjJe0&ab_channel=CERREThinkTank

If y'all think this is interesting, we could consider inviting the authors for a presentation and discussion? I'd be more than happy to help facilitate that.

Best,

Niels

That made the outcomes of the identification process are not the official standards, but rather recommendations for public procurement. Besides other tools and processes emerged in the EC, like a standards catalogue, or an European observatory for ICT standardization (https://standict.eu <https://standict.eu>). I think this also reduced motivation by the governments to submit new technical specifications for the process (and I want to stress that the whole identification process is EU member states driven).
