Yes indeed.  That's why the Mozilla design lets the mail people run their 
own server so they don't have to talk at all if they don't want to.

As an old uucp user (ima!johnl) I can assure you that UUCP and every other 
non RFC 822 mail address scheme is dead dead dead.  There may be some uucp 
transport lurking but there's no bangs in the addresses.
