FWIW I think requiring a node to run mDNS doesn't make sense for
power-constrained devices, because mDNS pretty much requires them to wake
up with every multicast. We finessed this with Thread by having nodes
register using SRP with a central service (presumably not
power-constrained, or not /as/ power-constrained), which then proxies mDNS
on their behalf on the infrastructure network. Devices on Thread use DNS
Push rather than mDNS for discovery. This seems like a better approach to
me than requiring constrained devices to do mDNS directly, at least when
the layer 2 is some 802.15.4 variant.
