While I’m skeptical of CoryD’s missive that interoperability of data export/import can serve to break the stranglehold and eliminate switching costs for social network and “free with ads application platforms”, it could be part of the solution space.
There’s a delicate balance about what data, particular the structure of a social or other interconnection graph actually belongs to you, to the platform, and to your friends/followers/followed. For example, it may be that somebody I follow would actually prefer that it not be known outside the current platform that I followed them…
