In the CoRE working group, we noticed that we were stumbling over terminology around media-types, content-types, content-codings, content-formats (a CoAP term), etc.; essentially creating rather imprecise documents as a result.
We also noted that we needed some ABNF that we can import into specifications such as draft-ietf-core-senml-data-ct [1].

So at some point we broke down and wrote it up:

https://datatracker.ietf.org/doc/draft-bormann-core-media-content-type-format/

But the CoRE WG cannot really adopt this document on its own, as (most of) these are not CoRE terms, and the CoRE WG is not chartered to fix up IETF-wide terminology (and ABNF).

I would like to bring this document up at the IETF110 meeting, and would welcome a list discussion here leading up to that.

Grüße, Carsten
