Folks, we've pushed out -02 of the dns grease I-D which is basically just a
version bump.

We have in the meantime been working on some implementation experiments to
gain some experience in this space, and are talking to several other folks
who are also planning to participate in these kinds of experiments. If you
are interested in some implementation work, please reach out to Mark and/or
myself. Our plan is to use such experiments to guide the direction of this
draft, and help us more concretely specify recommendations on exactly what
things to grease.

Shumon (and Mark).

Internet-Draft draft-ietf-dnsop-grease-02.txt is now available. It is a work
item of the Domain Name System Operations (DNSOP) WG of the IETF.

Title: Greasing Protocol Extension Points in the DNS
   Authors: Shumon Huque
            Mark Andrews
   Name: draft-ietf-dnsop-grease-02.txt
   Pages: 8
   Dates: 2025-11-02

Abstract:

Long term evolvability of the Domain Name System (DNS) protocol
requires the ability to support change. Greasing is one technique
that exercises the regular use of unallocated protocol extension
points to prevent ossification of their current usage patterns by
middleboxes or DNS implementations. This document describes
considerations and proposals for applying grease to the DNS protocol.
