The RFC doesn’t get modified.  For now, we leave the errata in-place as a correction.  At some point we can do a new draft that updates 9457 to address this issue, and any others that might have come up.  When that happens is up to authors who want to take it on.

I understand this can feel like a big “oops” and rush to fix.  Don’t take it personally, we all missed it.

that seems like a valid and useful point to me. given the extension
model that the spec describes the schema should be designed to
accommodate extensions, if present.
