The IESG has approved the Internet-Draft 'Using 31-Bit Prefixes on IPv4
Point-to-Point Links' <draft-retana-31bits-03.txt> as a Proposed
Standard. This has been reviewed in the IETF but is not the product of
an IETF Working Group.

The IESG contact persons are Randy Bush and Bert Wijnen.

Technical Summary

This document describes small changes to RFCs 1122, 1700, and 1812 which
allow operators to halve the amount of address space assigned to point-
to-point links by allowing the very limited use of 31-bit subnet masks.

Working Group Summary

There were no substantive technical comments during a four week IETF
 lass call.

Protocol Quality

The document was reviewed for the IESG by Randy Bush. Trial
implementations have been promised from two vendors.
