Purpose: A venue for discussing random-access authenticated encryption, which allows message segments to be encrypted and decrypted independently and in any order, and for the SEAL construction described in draft-sullivan-cfrg-raae. Topics include the security notions for raAE, per-segment authentication, immutable, append-only and mutable modes, snapshot authenticators for verifying a whole segment set, and implementation and interoperability experience. Discussion to date has been scattered across CFRG and private threads, and a dedicated list gives implementers one place to find it.
