The IETF Administration LLC (IETF LLC) recently consulted on a proposal to increase IETF Meeting fees [1]. In most cases, the proposed increase was roughly in line with US inflation since the fee was last set. The IETF LLC further proposed to review fees annually.

Thank you to all of you who provided feedback for this proposal [2]. Much of the feedback was supportive, with the notable exception of the proposal to introduce a fee for the Hackathon, to which a number of respondents objected on varying grounds.

The IETF LLC board met last week and agreed the following:

1. Increase the onsite participation fees as follows:

 - Early Bird - from $700 to $875 (25%)
 - Standard - from $875 to $1095 (25.1%)
 - One Day - from $375 to $470 (25.3%)
 - Late - from $1000 to $1200 (20%)

The Student fee is unchanged at $150.

2. Increase the remote participation fees as follows:

 - Early Bird - from $230 to $250 (8.7%)
 - Standard - $280 to $310 (10.7%)
 - Late - $330 to $360 (9.1%)
 - Student - $50 to $55 (10%)
 - One Day - $125 to $140 (12%)

3. Fee changes will be effective for IETF 117.

4. The decision on the Hackathon fee is deferred pending further work from the IETF Executive Director.

5. Fees will be reviewed and updated as needed on an annual basis, preferably during the annual budget process.

It is also worth noting that the IETF LLC recently published a statement on Remote Meeting Participation [3] that notes its aspirational goal to make all participation in the IETF free, including IETF meetings.

Please feel free to reach out directly if you have any questions.
