The IETF holds three plenary meetings a year and charges a fee to participate in these meetings in order to offset the cost. The IETF does not charge any form of membership fee and makes all of its publications freely available, making the meeting fee the sole potential monetary cost of participation. To ensure that this fee is not a barrier to participation, the IETF provides remote registration fee waivers with no questions asked. In 2023 meeting fees were raised after many years of remaining static and the IETF LLC Board asked the IETF Executive Director to conduct an annual review (under section 7.5 of RFC 8711 [1], the setting of meeting fees is delegated to the IETF Executive Director). This year, I conducted this review on the following basis: - to approximately match US inflation of 2.75% with an average increase of 2.5% using projected attendance for 2026 - to keep the increases in the one-day fees as low as possible while still being above 50% of the normal week pass The following increases are proposed for 2026, effective from IETF 126 Vienna in July 2026: ONSITE: - Super Early - from $925 to $950 (2.7%) - Early - from $1155 to $1180 (2.2%) - Standard - from $1265 to $1300 (2.8%) - One Day Super Early - from $495 to $500 (1%) - One Day Early - unchanged at $620 - One Day Standard - unchanged at $680 - Student - from $160 to 165 (3.1%) REMOTE: - Super Early - from $264 to $270 (2.3%) - Early - from $327 to $335 (2.5%) - Standard - from $380 to $390 (2.6%) - One Day Super Early - from $148 to $150 (1.4%) - One Day Early - unchanged at $180 - One Day Standard - unchanged at $210 - Student - from $58 to $60 (3.5%) Feedback is now sought on these proposed increases. Please provide your feedback either to me directly at exec-director@ietf.org or to the public mailing list admin-discuss@ietf.org by the end of Friday 14 November.
