IETF 127 is booked for 14-20 November 2026 in San Francisco, USA. This booking was originally for IETF 102 in July 2018, then deferred and rebooked for IETF 111 in July 2021, and then deferred due to the pandemic and rebooked as IETF 127. Prior to its meeting in March 2025, the IETF Administration LLC (IETF LLC) Board received a recommendation to review the IETF 127 venue with regards to a change in circumstances affecting border entry conditions into the USA. The IETF LLC Board considered this pursuant to the venue selection criteria defined in BCP 226 and, as noted in the minutes [1], agreed at that meeting that “it would be inappropriate to make any change without clear evidence of a direct issue”. It further committed to “consider its future meeting strategy in the context of a rapidly changing global environment, at its strategic retreat in May”. This subject was again raised during the IETF 122 Plenary session [2], where several participants recommended that this meeting be moved outside of the US for the same concern that circumstances have changed regarding border entry conditions into the USA, and that this decision be taken urgently. The IETF LLC Board also received private feedback, some opposed to moving this meeting, and some of the view that it is too early to make any decision. Consequently, the IETF LLC Board intends to consider this matter again at its meeting on 16 April 2025 [3] and at its May retreat. As a reminder of existing practices, all IETF LLC Board meetings have an open section with time at the end for questions from observers, and private sections for confidential matters. The IETF LLC Board invites the community to provide their views on this matter. These views will be anonymised, summarised and incorporated into a report for the IETF LLC Board. Please note that this is not a vote or poll and the IETF LLC Board is only empowered to consider this in the context of the criteria and guidance provided in BCP 226. Please send your input to llc-feedback@ietf.org, which is a private list for the IETF LLC Board and IETF Executive Director. Please provide this by the end of Saturday 12 April 2025 in order for it to be properly considered.
